File transfer is carried on using a multi-hop swarming system (inspired by the "Turtle Hopping" feature from the Turtle F2F project, but implemented differently). It is possible to share folders between friends. IPv6 support was merged into the master branch and will be released in the next version. Friends of friends cannot connect by default, but they can see each other, if the users allow it. After authentication and exchanging an asymmetric key, OpenSSL is used to establish a connection, and for end-to-end encryption. Features Authentication and connectivity Īfter initial installation, the user generates a pair of ( GPG) cryptographic keys with Retroshare. Users can communicate indirectly through mutual friends and request direct connections. Retroshare is an instant messaging and file sharing network that uses a distributed hash table for address discovery. In August 2015, Retroshare repository was migrated from SourceForge to GitHub.

It lost a point because there has not been a recent independent code audit. On 4 November 2014, Retroshare scored 6 out of 7 points on the Electronic Frontier Foundation's secure messaging scorecard. The website 'PRISM Break' has recommended Retroshare for anonymous file sharing since 2013. There has been an unofficial build for the single-board computer Raspberry Pi, named PiShare, since 2012.

Retroshare was founded in 2004 by Mark Fernie. Comparison of Internet Relay Chat clients. It is probably not really difficult to implement but I am not capable to do it.English, Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan (Spain), Chinese (China), Chinese (Taiwan), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician (Spain), German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malayalam, Norwegian Bokmål, Occitan, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, VietnameseĪnonymous P2P, friend-to-friend, chat, instant messaging, newsgroups, voice over IP, email client and BBS It would be lovely if one then could connect to a Raspberry Pi which runs a Retroshare addon inside an XBMC hub which is permanently switched on.īy now you have guessed it. This will enable you to securely connect to a RS-hub at home with your phone or tablet. Somewhere soon the RetroShare developers will launch a web interface Retroshare Web Interface Coming Soon. I am no expert but I think this friends-to-friends concept can be a viable alternative / addition to the current streaming channels (which happen to change their urls a lot). And yes, Retroshare works on the Raspberry Pi. You can easily create custom channels, chat rooms, mailing lists etc. You can use Retroshare to share files, chat, email & talk. It is as secure as currently possible, works via the 'web of trust' concept, has no central servers but only encrypted connections between machines, and the only ip adresses which are visible for a given device are the ones of the befriended devices. On the outside Retroshare looks & feels a lot like the old but still working Soulseek, but it is more robust. I think RetroShare RetroShare Unofficial Wiki might be the best option.
Retroshare soulseek software#
I have compared the existing old and new open source p2p software for this purpose. I would like to have an option to share my collections with my friends. I have not found a RetroShare thread on this forum but I think there should be one
Retroshare soulseek mods#
If not mods please move this to a more appropriate place. This is my first post and I hope I am at the right section of the forum.
